As part of our mission to hike the highest peak in every Spanish province, our Muccamoon adventure continues—this time in the sun-soaked southeast! After starting strong with Mulhacén in Andalucía, we made our way to Murcia to tackle its highest summit: Pico del Obispo (2,014 m), nestled in the Sierra de Villafuerte.
A Lesser-Known Gem
While not as famous as some other Spanish peaks, Pico del Obispo offered us a rugged and peaceful escape into nature. The climb is less trafficked, but no less rewarding—with panoramic views stretching all the way to the Mediterranean on a clear day.
Parking & Trail Start with the Motorhome
We parked in the centre of Cañada de la Cruza, where there’s enough space to safely leave the van. From there, the trail begins with a gentle climb through forested paths before opening up into wide alpine-like landscapes. Parking Spot https://maps.app.goo.gl/stzf28evyEf74HPC6
The Ascent
The route to the summit is about 10–12 km round trip, depending on your chosen path. It’s a moderate hike, with the last stretch becoming steeper and rockier. No technical gear needed, just good shoes, water, and sun protection. Wikiloc Route: https://es.wikiloc.com/rutas-senderismo/revolcadores-y-pico-del-obispo-desde-canada-de-la-cruz-37887022
Hiking with a Motorhome – Quick Tips:
🗺️ Download maps offline: Phone signal can be patchy.
🥾 Pack for sudden weather changes, even in sunny Murcia.
🌅 Sleep near the trailhead: Waking up and starting early avoids the heat.
🧼 Respect nature: Leave no trace, and be ready for remote conditions.
🧭 Bring a paper map or GPS watch if the trail isn't well-marked.
Peak #2 Done – Many More to Go!
We’re now 2 peaks into our goal of climbing the highest mountain in every Spanish province. Pico del Obispo surprised us with its beauty and remoteness—and reminded us that the lesser-known climbs are often the most magical.
📍Next stop: Stay tuned—we’re heading north soon!
